Fish
Creek offers a unique opportunity to view and photograph
Alaskan Brown (Grizzlies) and Black bears. The bears
come here to feed on the chum and pink salmon which
spawn in the creek. From July to September, the salmon
run provides an extensive food supply for bears, gulls
and bald eagles.
How To Get There: Drive through Hyder on the
Granduc Road for approximately 3 miles and you will
not miss the crowds of people and the bears!

Salmon
Glacier |

The
Salmon Glacier - the fifth largest glacier in North
America. Looking down upon the Salmon Glacier and along
the valley below you can see how the glacier is continually
transforming the landscape and itself.
The drive above this spectacular glacier and take pictures
and make sure to stop and take photos or picnic anywhere
you want. The road starts in Hyder, Alaska at sea level
and follows the Salmon River to its birthplace - the
Salmon Glacier. 4,300 ft. up in the alpine located back
in beautiful British Columbia. The road goes by several
old gold mines including the famous Premier Gold Mine
- now called Westmin Gold - which has been in operation
off and on since the 1920s.

How To Get There: Drive through Hyder
on the Granduc Road for approximately 25 miles and you
will soon find yourself gazing at one of the most spectacular
sights around. Please note that the road is not always
in the best of conditions, so make sure to take a reliable
vehicle - or better yet, take a tour! |

Stewart,
British Columbia and Hyder, Alaska host International
Days from July 1st to July 4th every year. Both towns
join in the planning and provide many fun-filled activities
throughout the celebrations. Some of the events that
you can enjoy are: children's games, scavenger hunt,
craft sales, parades on both the 1st and the 4th, a
slo-pitch tournament, pancake breakfasts and top it
all off with fireworks in Hyder on the 4th of July.
This is a big event for our small towns, you will really
enjoy yourself!

From
May to September you can experience some of Stewart
and Hyder's history. Visit some of the great exhibits
or simply sit back and do some reading about the communities.
You will find some great movie props from Hollywood
movies that have been filmed in the area. Such as: Insomnia,
The Thing, Bear Island, Iceman and Leaving Normal.
How To Get There: The Museum is located in Stewart
just a few blocks from the main street. The address
is 603 Columbia Street, Stewart, BC and the phone number

Bear
Glacier |

This
road side glacier will leave you breathless with its
beauty and incredible blue color. The Bear Glacier is
one of the few blue glaciers with the most easiest access
in the world.
How To Get There: Approximately 30 km before
arriving in Stewart you will see the Bear Glacier on
your left hand side. There is a road side pull out for
vehicles to park and take pictures. If you missed the
glacier on the way into town, make sure to stop on your
way out.

John Carpenter's THE THING is an alien creature
that can change its shape into anything it has
killed. Accidentally set free from its crashed
ship by Norwegian Scientists in the Antarctic,
the Thing begins decimating nearly everyone within
the Norwegian camp.
Eventually, the Thing flees to the American outpost
and assimilated into their group by hiding out
as a husky dog. Soon it becomes clear that the
dog that they thought to have rescued from the
crazed Norwegian's is really a viscous killing
machine that mimics its prey.
