| FISHING |
|
There
are several lakes and rivers in the area for fishing,
boating and water-skiing. Be sure to ask some of the
locals where the best spots are. It is even possible
to catch crabs and prawns right off the docks!
You can find Dolly Varden in Fish Creek. King salmon
(up to 50 lb), Coho salmon and Alaska King Crab in Portland
Canal. In Meziadin River mouth and the Nass River you
can fish for salmon, Dolly Varden and steelhead and
Rainbow in Bob Quinn Lake. Area fishing charters are
available.

| HOCKEY
|
| Stewart has a wonderful recreation
centre that houses our local hockey & curling arena.
There is also space available for rent for parties and
functions. For more information, you can contact the winter
club at 636-2560. |
| SKIING |
|
Stewart
and Hyder is situated near Bell 2 Lodge, a world renowned
heli skiing destination.
You'll never forget a great run down the snow capped
mountain tops. During the winter months you will be
amazed at the record snowfalls that can happen just
overnight!

| BASEBALL |
| Stewart has two great softball
diamonds. Stewart and Hyder have hosted several baseball
tournaments throughout the summer. Get out and come catch
a great game! |
| RODEO
|
The
two towns also come together to host an International
Rodeo on the second weekend in June every year. This event
is great for the whole family.... come experience true
small town hospitality. You may even find some of the
locals riding the bulls! |
| TENNIS |
| Stewart also has two tennis courts
for those of you who love to play. The tennis courts are
located near Rainy Creek Park. |
| GOLFING |
Stewart
and Hyder do not have a golf course, but do offer a great
driving range. Stewart's only golf driving range, Mount
Rainey Driving Range, is for the avid golfer who just
can't get enough. Test your skill at the new Stewart driving
range beside the spectacular Bear River. This relaxing
past time is something the whole family can enjoy. |
| SNOWMOBILING |
|
There
is so much to do in Stewart and Hyder during the winter
months, such as snowmobiling. It is a treat on our glacier
capped mountains. Believe it or not, but we have snowmobiling
all year round! Bet you can't find that everywhere.
Our snow covered mountains attract snowmobilers from
all over!
Join in the Big Missouri Poker Run snowmobile event
in April every year. It is a great time. Visit during
the winter and enjoy snowfalls that have been known
to rise to 27 feet and create a winter wonderland.

| CAMPING |
|
Going
on holidays is nothing without some fun camping. Stewart
and Hyder offer several campgrounds for you to spend
the night, roast hotdogs or marshmallows. Sit around
the campfire and spend some time with family and friends.

| HIKING
TRAILS |

We
offer a variety of maintained Hiking Trails. You can
find more information available at the Tourist Information
Centre.
Below is a list of some of the trails you can experience.

Sluice
Box/Barney Gulch Trail |
| |
Description: A short moderate hike
that follows the original railway bed leading out of Stewart
and climbs up to the historic sluice box. You can get
a great view overlooking the town of Stewart and the Portland
Canal. |

How To Get There: When leaving Stewart
on highway 37A cross the Bear River Bridge and take the
first right towards the Stewart landfill. Park before
the bridge leading to the landfill and follow signs to
the trailhead. |

United
Empire Loyalist Trail |
| |
Description: A steep trail that follows
along the Bear River then climbs to a viewpoint (1 km)
overlooking the Bear River Valley and Stewart. The trail
continues beyond the viewpoint, climbing to the site of
the old United Empire Loyalist Mine at 4.3 km., then onto
the Bear River ridge and alpine (7.3 km). Caution: the
trail beyond the viewpoint is recommended for experienced
hikers only and should not be attempted until late June.

Highways service yard, in the town of Stewart. |

Fish
Creek Wildlife Observation Site |
| |
Description: The location provides
excellent opportunities to view Black and Brown Bears
during the months of July and August, as they feed on
salmon. The site is day use only, no camping is permitted.
US Forest Rangers are present in the summer months from
daylight to dusk. |

How To Get There: Drive North of
Hyder 4 miles along Salmon River Road. Parking, for the
Observation site, is located in a parking area immediately
after crossing the Fish Creek Bridge. |

Titan
Trail |
| |
Description: A moderate to difficult
4.8 mile (7.7 km) climb that follows a mule trail, which
accesses the historic Titan Mine Site. The trail, built
in 1922, also provided access to several other mineral
claims in the area. |

How To Get There: Drive North of
Hyder 4.25 miles (6.8 km) along the Salmon River Road
where the trailhead is located on the right hand side. |

Clements
Lake Recreation Site |
| |
Description: Clements Lake offers
good opportunities for picnicking, canoeing, camping and
a sandy beach for swimming. Motor restrictions apply on
the lake. Site is maintained May to October. |

How To Get There: Drive north from
Stewart along highway 37A for approximately 13 km (8 miles)
After crossing the Bitter Creek Bridge take the first
right. Turn left at the first junction and follow the
road, keeping to the right for another km. (0.6 miles) |

Ore
Mountain Trail |
| |
Description: A moderate to difficult
3.5 km trail that leads to a viewpoint overlooking the
Bear River Valley. The trail contains unmaintained sections
where overgrown bush and fallen trees are present. Not
recommended for beginners. A rough, unmarked route continues
past the tree line to alpine where the trail terminates
at an alpine lake. |

How To Get There: Drive North from
Stewart along highway 37A for approximately 13km. After
crossing the Bitter Creek Bridge, take the first right.
Turn left at the first junction and follow the road, keeping
to the right for another 1 km. From the Clements Lake
Recreation Site, follow the old road for 300 m to the
trailhead. Note: The road is impassable by vehicles 200
m past the recreation site. |

American
Creek Trail |

Description: A short historic mining
trail that follows along American Creek. The maintained
trail terminates after 4 km (2.4 miles) at Champion Creek.

How To Get There: Drive North from
Stewart along highway 37A for approximately 22 km. (13.5
miles) After crossing the Bear River Bridge take the second
left onto a steep gravel road, keeping to the right 300
m. (330 yards) until you reach the trailhead. |
